How to cope with change

SHIFT HAPPENS: Life is Subject to Change Without Notice
   and Without Your Permission

My first fight with God happened when my mother lost her battle

with breast cancer in 1985.  In spite of the prayers, denial and

bargaining with God, I became a Motherless child.

I wasn't prepared for that type of change, pain and loss in my life.

Since that dark time, I’ve had many more experiences of dealing

with unwelcomed change.  I grew to understand what the stage play

“Your Arms Are Too Short to Box with God” really meant.

 I have resisted change and had many more spiritual battles with God.

 I’ve grown now to understand over the years that I didn’t lose the fights…

I learned tremendous life lessons.

Sometimes change is needed but you want to hold on in spite

of the writing on the wall.   The need to change or let go

can be obvious, inevitable and the signs are everywhere

to be seen and heard.  You may be resisting it with

all your might in fear of the unknown or the need to have

what's comfortable and familiar remain status quo.

A train could be coming your way warning

you to stop procrastinating...stop being silent...stop closing

your eyes...stop the craziness in your life...stop resisting the

cycles of life...stop putting yourself in harm's way...stop allowing

the enemy to trick you...stop focusing your time and energy on

the wrong priorities...stop and get off the tracks.

Or unexpected change can hit you on the blind side and you say to yourself, “I didn’t even see that coming!”

     A big question is …”Why do so many people stay

on the tracks when they see a train coming?”

I think it’s because individuals inherently despise change

or they think they can control the train!  Those who are

proactive, anticipate change, and act quickly, get off the

tracks and become passengers on another train.

Resisting by closing your eyes or sitting on the tracks is a dangerous position.

Everybody gets hit with life changes.  Everybody will experience some form of a life

passage (career change, health issue, mid-life crisis, death of a loved one, caring for an

elderly parent, divorce, moving to a new city, or a financial setback).

You can learn to minimize the pain of change by strengthening your

personal infrastructure and increasing your faith to endure and adapt to life changes.

Whether you are choosing change in your life or change is choosing you, this book is guaranteed to encourage and empower you to cope and adapt to change in a positive and productive way.

"It's not so much that we're afraid of change or so in love with the old ways, but it's that place in between that we fear . . . . It's like being between trapezes.  It's Linus when his blanket is in the dryer. There's nothing to hold on to."   ~ Marilyn Ferguson

"Change. It has the power to uplift, to heal, to stimulate, surprise, open new doors, bring fresh experience and create excitement in life. Certainly it is worth the risk. "
--Leo Buscaglia

"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled.  For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers." ~ M. Scott Peck

"Everything must change.  Nothing and no one remains the same." popular song

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing . . .
A time to love . . .  Ecclesiastes 3
