"Of course, exercising and change of diet can help you lose weight.  But you also want to deal with the underlying psychological causes of overeating, i. e. lonely, frustrated and bored.  When your soul is starving or you don't have the will power yet to say "no", you may find yourself indulging in "emotional eating" to fill a void in your life, to soothe your low self-esteem or to distract yourself from coping with unpleasant tasks or feelings.  Anger and frustration usually cause us to crave crunchy and chewy foods, while loneliness and depression demand creamy comfort foods to help us further suppress our feelings." ~ Jewel Diamond Taylor

Weight loss and health

Are you an "emotional eater"?

Do you eat in stressful situations?
Do you eat when you are bored?
Do you “reward” yourself with food?
Do you eat when you are feeling down?
Do you eat to calm yourself down when angry?
Do you EAT in hiding to pretend you’re not eating a lot?
Do you prefer to eat “sweets” when you are alone?
Do you feel a “pay-off” when you eat?

Do you feel invisible, indifferent and unappreciated?
Does the SHAME and GUILT appear after you have eaten?

If you try to STOP yourself from feeling an emotion BY EATING, you are an emotional eater beyond “normal.”

Emotional eaters will do it compulsory.  It becomes a natural reaction to “substitute” feelings with food.

If you replace food with feelings such as anger, stress, pride, anxiety, sadness, fear, unhappiness, loneliness and hurt; you ARE an emotional eater.

Symptoms to recognize an emotional eater:

Eating when you feel sad or depressed.
Eating to reward yourself.
Eating when you are bored.
Eating when you are stressed.

Eating when you feel overwhelmed and helpless in your ability to help yourself or help your loved ones.
Eating when you need to fill the emptiness of grief or sadness.

You think more about OTHERS and your self-care suffers.
You don't see yourself as a priority in the family.
You have low self-esteem.

You feel ugly, ashamed and unworthy from past abuse.

You hide the hurt inside us.

Food has psychic power to soothe your emotional pain.  Instead of giving voice to your anger or pain, you may eat in silence.
You say to yourself..."Eating helps me stop thinking about how much I hate my life or my body."... "Shopping for my body is so depressing, it's easier to find something to eat than something to wear." .... I'm sad so I'll eat another piece of cake"..."Nobody loves me or listens to me so I'll just go down stairs to get a bag of potato chips"..."I can't stand my job so I'm stopping to get my donuts and latte coffee before I go to work."..."I'm so angry at him so I'm eating some cookies and a whole carton of ice cream."

If you're waiting to be inspired with a great burst of energy

to start exercising and eating better... it may never happen.

Unfortunately, too many of us learn that desperation, not inspiration,
is the motivation they gets us up and moving towards positive changes and relief from stress, lack of energy, weight gain and a low self-image.

I've seen in my own life how dissatisfaction has led me to action.
Looking at photographs of myself and facing the truth on the scale took me out of denial.  Photographs, weight scales and blood pressure monitoring don't lie.  They reveal what is happening in your body.

Let your dissatisfaction motivate you to action.
Are you dissatisfied with your weight and lack of energy?      Take action!

Stop talking about your issues.  Stop the blaming and the excuses.  Health is your first wealth.  Your body will turn against you unless you learn to take care of it.  As Americans, we eat too much fatty, frozen, fried and fast foods.

Your eating pattern is developed over time from taste, habit, misinformation, peer pressure and media pressure.  Poor eating can only lead to expensive medical bills, loss time from work, stress and a shorter life span.

Instead of allowing the pain and dissatisfaction to frustrate you,
let it motivate you to start doing what needs to be done.

Peace, progress and weight reduction can begin...once you begin.

Health is your first wealth.  No degree, car, diamonds, rims or awards can replace the blessing of good health.  Make sure you are doing the right thing to protect and maintain your health. Don't wait until bad news knocks at your door.  Be proactive and start today to practice living a healthy lifestyle.  Say no to anyone and anything that can deteriorate your health. (i.e. sweets, drugs, fatty foods, fast foods, tobacco, unprotected sex, caffeine. colas, stress, lack of rest, lack of exercise and worry).  Take your joy, health and energy to a new level.  Start today because it's the first day of the rest of your life.
